Fleet Driver Safety: Programmers Target Distracted Driving

Distracted driving, Audi computer codeWhether you’re a fleet truck driver or not, operating a cell phone while behind the wheel is simply under the “Do Not” list, but no matter how many laws, rules, and such may be placed, some drivers ignore it, making it difficult to implement. In an effort to discourage web browsing while driving, Audi wrote a computer code that can prompt a website to block access whenever a visitor is traveling over 12.4 MPH.

HOW IT WORKS

Utilizing GPS data, Audi’s “Safety Code” can determine when website visitors are traveling in a vehicle. Unless they verify that they are the passengers & not the drivers, the user will be “locked out” from the website. The driver could technically still lie, but the prompt will serve as a reminder of the dangers of distracted driving.

WHERE TO GET IT

Every & any website can have access to this code. Audi has made it available for all to use. A special page is dedicated to the safety campaign with research & statistics about distracted driving & instructions on how to add the code to your website.

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT

As a fleet management company, we care about our clients’ safety just as much as their fleet operations. Research shows that using a phone while driving increases the risk of getting into an accident by 300 percent. Even with that astonishingly high percentage, 8 out of 10 will STILL use their phone while driving.

Our unwavering commitment to your success allows us to provide the solutions you need to ensure you meet your business & safety goals. Learn more about our fleet leasing services & the types of programs we have available for your fleet.
